Renewal Choir Bristol, in partnership with Venturers Trust and Clifton College, is excited to announce the Windrush 75 Showcase event.

To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Windrush generation’s arrival in the UK, this inclusive event has been organised for school children and their families from Bristol-based Venturers Trust and Clifton College, as well as for the wider community.

Taking place at the iconic Clifton College Chapel, the Windrush 75 Showcase event will feature an evening of uplifting gospel music, celebrating the history, culture and remarkable contributions of the Windrush generation to the UK. School children from Venturers Trust and Clifton College will also contribute to the musical programme.

Vernon Samuels, Project Manager and one of the leaders of Renewal Choir said: “This partnership with Clifton College alongside Venturers Trust significantly enhances the reach of the benefit of our project. By holding our event at Clifton College Chapel, we’re creating a vibrant cultural exchange platform, connecting Bristol’s younger generation to the rich legacy of the Windrush generation and fostering a sense of community and connection.”

In the weeks surrounding the showcase, a series of gospel music workshops will also be delivered in various schools across Bristol, providing an invaluable educational experience. Students will have the opportunity to learn about the Windrush generation’s journey and their profound impact on British society.

Vernon Samuels continued: “At a time when unity and mutual understanding are more important than ever, the Windrush 75 Showcase event serves as a beacon of inclusivity and cohesion. It’s an opportunity for Bristol’s school children, their families and the wider community to learn about, appreciate and celebrate our shared history and the importance of diversity.”

Renewal Choir, with a mix of funding and support from the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, Near Neighbours Windrush 75 Scheme, Venturers Trust and Clifton College, has created this exciting event to mark 75 years since the Windrush generation began their journey to the UK.

David Watson, CEO of Venturers Trust, said: “We’re honoured to be taking part in this community-focused celebration event that helps to raise the profile of the Windrush generation and their significant contribution to the UK.”

Dr Tim Greene, Headmaster of Clifton College, said: “We are delighted to be hosting the Windrush 75 concert, welcoming people from across Bristol to share an evening of wonderful music and celebration.”
